Columb & Michelle Reid
We bought Morton House in December 1991. We knew from the beginning that it was a really special property – our kids loved growing up here in Masham.
In 2007 & 2008 we undertook a much needed renovation project on the property. The project was carried out thoughtfully in order to retain as many of the fabulous original features as possible, these included exposed beams, open fireplaces and a fantastic loft master suite.
The property has been a holiday let since April 2008 when we began welcoming many guests from all over the globe to our characterful property.
A Love of
Both Columb & Michelle have a strong passion for travelling and visiting new places and experiencing different cultures.
Michelle grew up in New Zealand and also spent quite a bit of time in Australia, she now feels so lucky to live in such a special place as Masham here in the Yorkshire Dales.
“I really enjoy sharing what we have here with other like minded travellers and enjoy making sure they get the best experience whilst staying with us at Morton House.”
With their experience they understand what guests to Masham might want to see and do while they stay in this special place.
We have 3 grown children, all now living away from Masham, and we also have 2 wonderful grandchildren. Family is hugely important to us and Morton House is a place we all love to get together.
Morton House is ideal for large family gatherings and reunions; its flexibility offers brilliant space for multi-generational families and we know other families will enjoy it as much as we do.
“Great value accommodation, felt immediately at home & only 2mins walk from Masham market square”
Courtyard / garden space, adjacent to bedrooms & lounge, shared with two other sets of visitors could cause problems, Lovely living space with all facilities, spacious, uncluttered, contemporary with lots of natural light – and good wifi.
“Great house, brilliant location for families with kids. Thanks for a wonderful week with four generations.”
“We all had a lovely time in Morton House. Great location, fantastic house and the best kitchen. A holiday that grown ups and children will remember. Thank you.”
“Last minute stay in a wonderful house in a great location. Everything you need for couples or families … thank you.”
“Fabulous stay in beautiful Masham in a gorgeous house. Warmly welcomed by Michelle.”
Just a minor thing – but as we are travelling around the UK we are trying to pack light so don’t carry things such as body wash for the shower. We assumed accommodation would provide this. Also there was a washing machine but no laundry detergent. It would have been convenient if this had been supplied – even at a cost. But as I said minor things. We had the whole house to ourselves. Loved the wood fire. Old world kitchen was lovely. Fully appointed with everything you could need.
“Had a great stay – house and surrounding area had everything we needed.”
“Four generations of our family stayed here to attend a wedding. Accommodation of a high standard, king size bed very comfy, all amenities close by and a warm welcome from Michelle and Columb.”
“A wonderful break in great accommodation and fantastic weather – what more could you ask for to celebrate a ‘Masham boy’s’ 80th birthday.”
Great location, amazing private stable block. The owners were lovely and made us feel extremely welcome. Would love to go back in the future.
“A gem of a place to stay”
Homely, great host and wonderful amenities with a fantastic range of activities on the door step, We hope to return!
“Great house, very comfortable. Fabulous end of a great holiday, thank you both so much – would come again.”
“What a great village”
Lovely accommodation, fabulous weather. We visited the Forbidden Corner, Himalayian Sculpture Gardens and Theakstons Brewery. We could be back.
“Great location. Great accommodation. Great!”
The shower rooms were a little small. The sink was low for anyone with a bad back. (got me out of the washing up though!) We really liked the underfloor heating. The beds and stay were very cosy and comfortable but with enough space to feel right at home. Great location for discovering Masham (could walk right into town or by the river and the surrounding area!)
“Lovely house, weather was great, enjoy tranquillity in the outdoors. Close to all amenities especially 2 breweries. Had food at Kings Head. Will recommend!”
“Excellent time, really comfortable house, appreciate the hospitality and welcome, haven’t moved from Masham! Lots of pubs and walks to enjoy. Best wishes for the new year.”
